Match Report: Yorkshire Mercury: 26th January 1920:

CASTLEFORD TOWN v LEEDS UNITED

Notts County were unable to fulfill their Midland League fixture at Castleford Town and so Leeds, who had no fixture arranged agreed at short notice to fulfill the void. It proved well-worth their while as the game proved of a high standard and an excellent performance saw them gain a well-earned point at a ground where it is always difficult to get a result from and Castleford are noted for being a hard nut to crack on it. The home side were at full strength with the exception of Walters, who was injured the previous week. Speed was included in the forward linewhile Walter Lynch deputised for Walters at half-back. While Castleford did not show any of their usual dash and seemed to be holding back thinking of the oncoming F.A. Cup game with Bradford the following week. Had they done so, they may have put Leeds under more pressure but the visitors showed enough defensive skills to make their supporters believe they fully deserved their point. There defence was adequate for the game and the right wing pair of Reeves and White occasionally, beat the Castleford defence. Both teams were handicapped by a a strong cross-wind, which it almost impossible to shoot with any accuracy and so the 3,500 spectators with both teams performances.
